                                    INSURANCE AND MEDICAL CARE

1. Insurance:

According to the school regulations, international students must purchase the medical insurance, which should at least cover accident insurance and Hospitalization. Scholarship students who enjoy the state medicine will have the benefit of the medical insurance paid by the Chinese government, while others have to buy the insurance at their own expenses, either before or after their arrival in China.

2. Medical Care:

When students who enjoy state medicine need go to see the doctor, they should go to the campus clinic of Peking University with the students ID card. At campus clinic, you only need to pay the registration fee and 10% of the total expenses (under the charge limitation designated by Chinese government).

Students can be transferred to other public medical institutions (must above 2nd rank) with the approval from the campus clinic, but you have to pay the total treatment fee first, and apply for reimbursement afterwards. The procedure is as follows:

          a. Firstly go to the campus clinic and get the hospital transfer approval from the doctor;

          b. Go to other hospitals, and pay for the total fee of the medical treatment;

          c. Apply for reimbursement at the International Students Division with the hospital transfer approval, prescription, and invoice with detailed items of the charges.

          Note:

          1) In emergency cases, such as narcosis, traumatism, fracture hyper pyrexia and etc., the hospital transfer approval can be waived.

          2) In general cases, the first recommended transfer hospital is the Third Hospital of Peking University.

          3) For those students who do not enjoy state medicine, all charges fall on themselves, on matter whether they go to the school clinic or other hospitals.

           

The following expenses are to be paid by students themselves:

          a. expenses in non-emergency cases in which students go to other hospitals without the required transfer approval;

          b. Expenses for Tooth Restorations, Tooth Filling, Tooth Extraction, Spectacles, Nutrients, abortion, Delivery, Hairdressing and Rectification of physiological defects, etc.;

          c. Expenses for medical treatment of the chronic diseases which had suffered before coming to China;

          d. Expenses for medical treatment and other related fees for injuries or traffic accidents caused by violation of school regulations and Chinese law;
