Nanofluidics: Fundamentals and applications

内容简介:Flows of molecules at the nanometers scale play an important role in many biological, chemical and physical systems and have important applications in the near future.

Ions and macromolecules are transported across lipid membranes by highly selective nanoscale protein channels. The study of these processes and their imitation in artificial structures, fabricated by chemical synthesis or micro-fabrication, offers many opportunities for applications in ultrasensitive detection of molecules: rapid sequencing of DNA, RNA or proteins, studies of conformation (secondary structure of RNA, protein folding), or molecular interactions. Furthermore, nanoscale channels, such as nanoslits or individual nanotubes offer the possibility to explore new phenomena appearing for molecular flows confined in nanometers scales. New transport behavior and functionalities can be developed by taking benefit of the specific couplings occurring at these scales (electrostatic, surface properties ….). Applications are numerous in the domains of desalination, ultra-filtration, energy harvesting.

2.欢迎各学院师生前来听报告。报告会期间请关闭手机或将手机调至静音模式。

报告人简介

Dr. Jan Eijkelreceived his master in pharmacy at the University of Amsterdam and his Ph.D. degree in 1995 at the University of Twente with prof.dr. Piet Bergveld. He then became postdoc at Imperial College London with prof. Andreas Manz.Heistheeditor of the Microfluidics and Nanofluidics journal and member of the Executive Technical Program Committee of the MicroTAS conference.Hepublished over 200 papers in top journalssuch asNature Nanotechnologyand the number of citations is closed to 5000 within the last five years. The focus of his research is on the investigation of physicochemical phenomena in micro- and nanofluidic systems, and their practical applications.
