  The School of Humanities, Economics and Law of Northwestern Polytechnical University was established in July 2003 by merging the former Department of Social Science and Department of Foreign Languages. The School has four departments offering an exceptional range of research and taught programs that cover the study and research of languages, linguistics, literature, philosophy, economics, and law.  
   
 

Currently, there are more than 170 teachers in the school, including 20 professors, and 37 associate professors with high academic level and rich experience in teaching and research. Every year, the University engages more than 30 long-term foreign teachers and experts to teach English and German in the School. At present, there are more than 1170 undergraduates and more than 280 graduates studying at the School.

As well as benefiting from the resources of the university-wide academic community, the School has its own thriving research and teaching environment. For the foreign languages study, it has language laboratories that covers an area of 800 square meters, one foreign languages periodicals reading room, one Chinese periodical reading room, one foreign languages reference room, and one Chinese reference room. For the study of international trade, the School has the Laboratory of International Trade to assist the teaching.

   
  The School has made significant contributions for the Chinese aeronautic industries. In recent years, the School of Aeronautics has achieved 15 National Awards for Scientific Progress, 109 awards at provincial and ministerial level, and 11 national patents. It has published more than 1000 research articles both in Chinese and internationally well-know journals.  
   
 

Great importance has been attached to the international academic cooperation and exchange. International relations have been established with universities and institutes in the USA, Germany, UK, France, Japan, Switzerland, Netherlands, Canada, and Hong Kong.
